and when it rains, will you always find an escape?
just running away from all the ones who loves you, from everything

In some ways, you know, people that don’t exist are much nicer than people that do. For instance, people that don’t exist are never cross: and they never contradict you: and they never tread on your toes! Oh, they’re ever so much nicer than people that do exist! However, never mind: you can’t help existing, you know: and I dare say you’re just as nice as if you didn’t.

I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.
I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can’t do a handstand—
I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said—
I’m just not the same since there’s rain in my head.

It’s easy to look at people and make quick judgments about them, their present and their past, but you’d be amazed at the pain and tears a single smile hides. What a person shows to the world is only one tiny facet of the iceberg hidden from sight. And more often then not, it’s lined with cracks and scars that go all the way to the foundation of their soul.

I want a life that sizzles and pops and makes me laugh out loud. And I don’t want to get to the end, or to tomorrow, even, and realize that my life is a collection of meetings and pop cans and errands and receipts and dirty dishes. I want to eat cold tangerines, and sing out loud in the car with the windows open, and wear pink shoes, and stay up all night laughing, and paint my walls the exact color of the sky right now. I want to sleep hard on clean white sheets, and throw parties, and eat ripe tomatoes, and read books so good they make me jump up and down.

I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us.If the book we are reading doesn’t wake us up with a blow on the head, what are we reading it for? we need the books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us.

Boys will be boys, that’s what people say. No one ever mentions how girls have to be something other than themselves altogether. We are to stifle the same feelings that boys are encouraged to display. We are to use gossip as a means of policing ourselves — this way those who do succumb to sex but are not damaged by it are damaged instead by peer malice. Girls demand a covenant because if one gives in, others will be expected to do the same. We are to remain united in cruelty, ignorance, and aversion. Or we are to starve the flesh from our bones, penalizing the body for its nature, castigating ourselves for advances we are powerless to prevent. We are to make false promises then resist the attentions solicited. Basically we are to become expert liars.

At this moment, there are 6,470,818,671 people in the world.
Some are running scared. Some are coming home.
Some tell lies to make it through the day.
Others are just now facing the truth.
Some are evil men, that war with good.
And some are good, struggling with evil.
6 billion people in the world. 6 billion souls.
And sometimes, all you need is one.
Some are running scared. Some are coming home.
Some tell lies to make it through the day.
Others are just now facing the truth.
Some are evil men, that war with good.
And some are good, struggling with evil.
6 billion people in the world. 6 billion souls.
And sometimes, all you need is one.

People have scars. In all sorts of unexpected places.
Like secret road maps of their personal histories.
Diagrams of all their old wounds.
Most of our wounds heal, leaving nothing behind but a scar.
But some of them dont. Some wounds we carry with us everywhere but though the cuts long gone,
the pain still lingers.
Like secret road maps of their personal histories.

Most of our wounds heal, leaving nothing behind but a scar.
But some of them dont. Some wounds we carry with us everywhere but though the cuts long gone,
